James Henderson, a 40-year higher education veteran, is the retired chief academic officer of the UW System. Prior to coming to Wisconsin, he served as provost and vice president for academic affairs at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette.
The successful candidate will succeed Sarah Mangelsdorf, who is leaving at the end of the 2018–19 academic year to assume the presidency of the University of Rochester.
The search would be renewed in the fall semester for a new vice chancellor for research and graduate education. Norman Drinkwater has agreed to continue serving in the post for the foreseeable future.
