Four years of graduate assistantship minimum stipend increases planned
UW–Madison has committed to increasing minimum graduate assistant stipends for the next four years in a forecasting plan, which emphasizes factors that are critical to student success: tuition remission, health and dental insurance benefits, paid vacation and sick leave, and mentorship training. The new approach gives students, principal investigators, departments, programs, schools, and colleges the ability to budget for increases to minimum stipends several years into the future.

The University of Wisconsin–Madison will recognize second- and third-shift employees at a late-night appreciation event on Wednesday, April 10, 2024, from 10:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. in Varsity Hall at Union South.

Search begins for new secretary of academic staff
A search committee is being formed to identify candidates for the next secretary of the academic staff. The person selected will replace Jake Smith, who served since 2014 in the Office of the Secretary of the Academic Staff as deputy secretary and then as secretary.
Public presentations scheduled for vice chancellor for research search candidates
Three finalists for the vice chancellor for research will visit campus over the next three weeks. The candidates’ names and CVs will be made available to the UW–Madison community 48 hours prior to each visit.

Plan ahead for weekend winter storm; campus operating normally
The University of Wisconsin–Madison plans to as operate normally as possible Friday and through the holiday weekend as a new winter storm is forecast to hit the region Friday and into Saturday, followed by bitter cold temperatures that will last until the middle of next week.
Search begins for next School of Education dean
A search is underway for the next dean of the School of Education to lead the school's academic and executive affairs at one of the nation's most prominent schools of education. Listening sessions on Jan. 16 and 17 will give community members the opportunity to provide input and ask questions. The application for full consideration is March 18.
