Carla Perez named bursar at UW-Madison
Carla Perez, director of student accounts and university cashier at Rice University, has been named bursar at UW–Madison.
Perez has more than 25 years of experience managing tuition and fees cashiering operations, student accounts and student loan services. Prior to joining Rice, she held similar positions at the New Jersey Institute of Technology, the University of Illinois and Brown University.
She holds a bachelor of science degree in accounting from California State Polytechnic University and a master of science degree in management information systems from the University of Illinois.
“I am excited to have Carla join UW–Madison and lead the Bursar’s Office,” says Martha Kerner, assistant vice chancellor for business services. “Her extensive experience in higher education, financial management and student services will certainly serve our campus well.”
The Bursar’s Office includes 18 full-time employees and is responsible for collecting nearly $650 million annually in student tuition and fee revenue, managing tuition accounts for approximately 43,000 students and managing campus-based student loan processing.
“It is an honor to have been selected to lead the Bursar’s Office at the University of Wisconsin – Madison,” says Perez. “I’ve been aware of the university’s reputation as a world-class institution for much of my career and I’m committed to serving students and the campus community to the best of my ability.”
Perez will begin her duties at UW–Madison on August 1. She succeeds Laura Rader, who has been serving as interim bursar since November.
