"All right — take your seats, everyone." Sounds like a professor at the beginning of class, right? But in this case, it's an invitation. After a long winter in storage, the colorful sunburst chairs returned to the Memorial Union Terrace Thursday. Just add some real sunshine, and let the studying and socializing begin.

Catching some rays
A team of researchers at UW–Madison is building cameras that can see the arrival from space of gamma rays, marked by a cascade of subatomic particles created when the rays smash molecules in the atmosphere.

Faculty climate survey shows satisfaction among many but room for improvement
The survey went to all tenured and tenure-track faculty with 1,285 responding — a response rate of 58.6 percent. Similar surveys have been done four times since 2003.
Eleven faculty recognized with Kellett Mid-Career Awards
The Kellett awards recognize outstanding faculty seven to 20 years past their first promotion to a tenured position. Supported by the Wisconsin Alumni Research Foundation, they provide research funding to the winners at a critical stage of their careers.
