Rotary honors longtime UW Libraries employee, volunteer, book lover

James Dast is being honored with the Senior Service Award given by the Rotary Club of Madison, the University of Wisconsin–Madison Libraries announced today. Dast, who retired as the Libraries' conservator in 1996, has spent the past 30 years volunteering with the Friends of the Library. He will be honored at a Rotary luncheon today. Read More

Two Administrative Improvement Award teams will receive supplemental funding from campus

Two teams have been chosen to receive funds that will support initiatives related to projects that won UW–Madison’s 2014 Administrative Improvement Awards. These supplements are a new component of the Administrative Improvement Awards, which were launched in 2013 to recognize the essential role of administrative work and a culture of continuous improvement in the success of university missions. Team recipients of the 2014 awards were eligible to apply for supplemental investment funds. Read More

UW-Madison scientist receives award to save babies, a diaper at a time

She woke up in her hospital room feeling nothing short of desperation. Katie Brenner remembered giving birth to a tiny daughter hours earlier but the doctors and nurses had whisked the preterm infant away for care. She hadn’t seen little Ruthie since. “I want to meet my daughter,” the normally polite Brenner demanded of the hospital staff. Her little girl is now a healthy 6-year-old and for that, Brenner is thankful. But she knows the story ends much differently for too many families. Winning climate change solutions range from meat processing to mindfulness

The Climate Quest competition to spur innovative climate change solutions is down to a field of five. At the Climate Quest Concept Pitch on Sept. 19, 18 teams presented their ideas to a panel of investors and entrepreneurs, who rated the ideas on many factors including creativity, scalability and potential impact.
