The Faculty Senate on Monday held the first reading on a draft proposal for tenure protections, crafted to respond to recent legislative changes.
An ad hoc committee of faculty members charged with recommending policies to continue strong tenure protections in response to legislative changes made in the 2015-17 state budget has released a report with recommendations. The answers below were written by Professor Dorothy Farrar Edwards, a member of the University Committee who chaired the ad hoc committee on tenure and termination, Vice Provost for Faculty and Staff Programs Michael Bernard-Donals, and Secretary of the Faculty Steven Smith.

John and Tashia Morgridge issued a challenge last November to fellow University of Wisconsin–Madison alumni - they would match up to $100 million in donations to fund new and enhanced endowments for named professorships, chairs and distinguished chairs at the university.
Six members of the University of Wisconsin–Madison faculty have been appointed to Wisconsin Alumni Research Foundation named professorships.
A newly established professorship will allow the University of Wisconsin–Madison to hire new faculty to build upon its widely recognized leadership in chemical and biological engineering. Supported by a $3 million commitment from the Wisconsin Alumni Research Foundation (WARF), the Ernest Micek Distinguished Chair in Chemical and Biological Engineering will honor a UW–Madison graduate with a long record of service to UW–Madison.
