Four University of Wisconsin–Madison professors have been awarded prestigious Alfred P. Sloan Research Fellowships.

Sushmita Roy, assistant professor of biostatistics and medical informatics, Shan Lu, assistant professor of computer sciences and assistant professors of mathematics Samuel Stechmann and Jun Yin will receive $50,000 grants from the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation.

“For more than half a century, the Sloan Foundation has been proud to honor the best young scientific minds and support them during a crucial phase of their careers when early funding and recognition can really make a difference,” said Dr. Paul L. Joskow, president of the Sloan Foundation. “These researchers are pushing the boundaries of scientific knowledge in unprecedented ways.”

Sloan Research Fellowships have been awarded since 1955. The Alfred P. Sloan Foundation is a New York-based not-for-profit philanthropic organization founded in 1934. The foundation makes grants in support of research and education in science, technology, engineering, mathematics and economic performance.
