UW-Madison recommends against nonessential travel to Mexico

April 29, 2009

Chancellor Biddy Martin has endorsed recommendations of the campus International Emergency Response Committee (IERC), advising against all university travel to Mexico until further notice. This is in alignment with the travel warning issued on April 27 by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

All faculty, staff and students are advised to cancel all nonessential planned travel to Mexico until further notice. The IERC and Campus Health Issues Planning Committee will continue to monitor the evolving situation and will provide updated recommendations as new warnings and restrictions develop.

The university has not made any determination about whether to cancel any student programs currently scheduled to leave for Mexico in the coming weeks. The IERC will make a final recommendation on May 7 regarding these programs.

All faculty, staff and students who are currently out of the country are strongly encouraged to make sure their departments have up-to-date information regarding their location and local contact information.
