103 years of tradition lives on for UW–Madison’s Homecoming
The game day opponent may be a first-timer, but this year’s University of Wisconsin–Madison Homecoming tradition is 103 years in the making. Thousands of alumni will return this week for the annual commemoration of Homecoming at UW–Madison, when UW graduates join future alumni and the campus community for a weeklong celebration of spirited Badger traditions.
Recent sightings: Fill the Hill
Plastic pink flamingos flock to Bascom Hill Tuesday, Oct. 7, for the annual "Fill the Hill" event, an initiative of the UW’s Annual Campaign. Event volunteers place a pink flamingo on Bascom Hill for each donation between 5 p.m. Oct. 6 and 5 p.m. Oct. 7.
‘Fill the Hill’ helps Annual Campaign fly high
What began as a prank has become part of University of Wisconsin–Madison lore. And now, this quirky campus classic is set to come alive once again when pink flamingos return to roost this week on Bascom Hill. This time, they’ll be flocking to their grassy home as part of the UW’s Annual Campaign. For the second year, alumni and friends are encouraged to “Fill the Hill” by making a gift to the university via the Annual Campaign’s website, sharethewonderful.org.
Ten to receive Distinguished Teaching Awards
Ten faculty members have been chosen to receive this year’s Distinguished Teaching Awards, an honor given out since 1953 to recognize the university’s finest educators.
Pink flamingos will ‘Fill the Hill’ again Wednesday
