Search committee formed for vice chancellor for finance and administration

February 18, 2016 By John Lucas

The search for UW–Madison’s chief finance and administrative officer is underway.

A 14-member search and screen committee, chaired by Terry Warfield, PwC Professor of Accounting and chair of the Department of Accounting and Information Systems in the Wisconsin School of Business, will meet before the end of February.

The committee will recruit and screen candidates to fill the leadership role — vice chancellor for finance and administration — assisted by an outside search firm.

Chancellor Rebecca Blank has said she expects a new vice chancellor to be in place by fall. Alumnus and retired executive Michael Lehman is serving as interim vice chancellor during the search period.

“We’ll work quickly and efficiently to identify top-flight candidates for this critical position,” says Warfield, who served on two recent committees to study the campus budget model.

When finalists are ultimately selected, they will be interviewed by the search and screen committee as well as campus governance groups, other senior university leaders, deans and directors, and members of the Madison community.

A Web page with information about the search is being established at provost.wisc.edu/leadership-searches.htm.

The email for nominations or questions about the search is: UWMadisonFinance@storbeckpimentel.com.

In addition to Warfield, members of the search committee include:

  • Marianne Bird Bear, assistant dean, International Division
  • Chris Bruhn, director of facilities and assistant dean, College of Letters & Science
  • Mark Guthier, director, Wisconsin Union
  • Jason Jankoski, assistant dean for human resources, College of Engineering
  • Charles Konsitzke, associate director, Biotechnology Center
  • Madison Laning, student representative and chair, Associated Students of Madison
  • Anne Murphy-Lom, HR assistant advanced, General Library System
  • Mario Morris, associate athletic director for business operations, Athletic Department
  • Ken Mount, senior associate dean for finance, School of Medicine and Public Health
  • Aaron Olver, managing director, University Research Park
  • Meghan Owens, lead compensation and titling analyst, Office of Human Resources
  • Carol Ryff, professor, Department of Psychology and Director of the Institute on Aging
  • Lori Stortz, chief audit executive, UW System

The Office of the Vice Chancellor for Finance and Administration is responsible for the overall supervision of the university’s financial and administrative functions, including budget, facilities planning, business services, and some student services.

A campus farewell will be held for departing Vice Chancellor Darrell Bazzell from 2 to 5 p.m. on March 4 at Gordon Dining and Event Center. All from the campus and Madison communities are welcome.

Bazzell has served as UW–Madison’s chief financial and administrative officer since 2003.
