Office unveils new resource for keeping information, computer users secure

March 26, 2008

Sensitive data is lost, misplaced, printed on mailing labels, posted online, hacked and just left around for others to see more often than we’d like to admit. By one estimate, 53 million people have had their personal information (e.g., Social Security numbers, account numbers, health information) exposed during the past 13 months.

The Office of Campus Information Security (OCIS) has announced a new Web site to address the growing risk of data exposure that UW–Madison and other institutions face. The site helps students, faculty and staff learn to secure their computers, protect their identities and properly handle university data.
