Molding a stronger plastics industry

September 23, 2003

One of the most important industries in Wisconsin is the plastics industry. In an effort to help this industry keep its competitive edge, UW–Madison, along with other institutions throughout the state, will work with Wisconsin plastics companies to drive innovative product development and enhance industrial competitiveness through technology transfer of new polymer materials, processes and tools.

This two-year project, funded by a $600,000 grant from the National Science Foundation, also will foster collaborative networks within the plastics industry.

Raj Veeramani, director of UW–Madison’s Consortium for Global eCommerce who will lead the project, says the effort “is a tone-setting example of how UW–Madison, the UW System and other institutions in the state can come together to serve one of Wisconsin’s core industries.”
