Grainger Goes Pink to support breast cancer awareness

October is Breast Cancer Awareness month, and the Wisconsin School of
Business is spreading awareness with an innovative week of programming as part of Grainger Goes Pink, a celebration and fundraiser founded by alumnus Jon Fasoli, who had a family member with the illness.

This year’s event is organized by the Wisconsin Business Student Collaborative (WBSC), the new student government of the Wisconsin School of Business.

“Jon wanted to do something as a [student] government to give back,” says Matt Beemsterboer, business student and co-founder of the WBSC. “So we’re carrying on his tradition by draping the atrium in pink balloons and ribbons, and asking business students to volunteer their time and donate their dollars for this much-too-familiar cause.”

As the highlight of this year’s events, former Green Bay Packers Hall of
Fame cornerback LeRoy Butler will speak in Morgridge Auditorium from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 14, about his foundation, the LeRoy Butler Foundation, which gives money to those suffering or recovering from
breast cancer in Wisconsin. Autographed memorabilia of the Packers legend will be available before and after the lecture.

Throughout the week, Grainger Goes Pink will be selling pink T-shirts and wristbands at tables in Grainger Hall’s West Atrium from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. T-shirts are available for $10, and wristbands are available for $2. In addition, participants can purchase raffle tickets for $2 or three for $5, with a chance to win prizes that include gift cards to Sconnie and University Bookstore, Camp Randall posters and more.

WBSC consists of four elected officers as well as eight class representatives from pre-business, sophomore, junior and senior classes, and also one non-voting member from the new Freshman Interest Group.
