Grads sponsor national competition for Bucky’s All-Alumni Food Drive

September 25, 2008 By Kate Dixon

University of Wisconsin–Madison alumni across the United States are joining in the fight against hunger this season as part of Bucky’s All-Alumni Food Drive. The nationwide food drive is sponsored by volunteer leaders of the Wisconsin Alumni Association (WAA).

“Bucky’s All-Alumni Food Drive is a win-win program for UW alumni and their communities,” says WAA President and CEO Paula Bonner. “Badgers can get together to watch some great Big Ten football while making a difference for their area food banks.”

The drive will take place during WAA chapter football game-watch parties held at various locations across the nation and is part of a national competition among WAA chapters.

Participating chapters will compete for weekly and end-of-season prizes at drives held during Wisconsin’s Big Ten football season beginning Sept. 27 against Michigan and ending Nov. 15 against Minnesota. UW alumni are welcome to participate in the drive by connecting with a local chapter.

Alumni in the Dane County area can enter the prize competition by bringing nonperishable food items or cash donations to the Wisconsin Alumni Association, Below Alumni Center, 650 N. Lake Street, Madison, on weekdays between 7:45 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. from Sept. 26 to Nov. 14. A cash donation of $1 will purchase five pounds of food.

Donations in Dane County will benefit local food pantries, including the Allied Partners Food Pantry, Goodman Atwood Community Center Food Pantry and The River Food Pantry.
