Experts discuss supporting young businesses at WARF’s Gilson Event
A panel of experts committed to providing guidance and services to entrepreneurs will share information on “Funding and Resources for Young Businesses” at the Wisconsin Alumni Research Foundation (WARF) Gilson Discovery event on Tuesday, Feb. 24 at 5 p.m. in the Fluno Center, 601 University Avenue.
Aaron Olver, Wisconsin Commerce deputy secretary; Joe Kremer, Wisconsin Angel Network director; and Neil Lerner, University of Wisconsin–Madison Small Business Development Center director; will share information about how technology and business start-ups can tap into funding and resources to enhance business options and growth.
The panel will talk about non-recourse loans, grants, tax credits and business development resources available to help high-tech entrepreneurs build companies that succeed. The event is free and open to the public as part of the Gilson Discovery Series hosted by WARF.
The panel discussion is followed by a networking reception at 6 p.m. Complimentary parking is available by registering online or by calling Devon Cournoyer at 608-890-1621.
WARF supports world-class research at UW–Madison by protecting the intellectual property of university faculty, staff and students, and licensing inventions resulting from their work. WARF was established in 1925 as the first university-based technology transfer office in the world.
In 2002, UW–Madison alumnus, faculty member and entrepreneur Warren Gilson bequeathed a generous gift to WARF to promote entrepreneurship in Wisconsin. Since 2005, WARF has hosted a series of events in his name to help connect the university with the Madison community.
