Research aims to reduce home fire damage

With the help of a National Science Foundation grant, civil and environmental engineering professor Steve Cramer recently embarked on a two-year project aimed at reducing the estimated 4,000 deaths, 17,000 injuries and $6 billion in property damage caused each year by fires in residential construction.

Former poet laureate Pinsky to speak May 2

Robert Pinsky, poet laureate of the United States from 1997-2000, will speak on campus Wednesday, May 2, as part of the Union Directorate’s Distinguished Lecture Series and to help the UW-Madison library system celebrate the acquisition of its six millionth book.

UW-Madison takes steps to ensure NCAA rules compliance

UW-Madison officials will impose significant penalties, discipline Athletics Department staff and change internal procedures to ensure future compliance with National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) regulation of student athletes. The measures announced Friday, April 20, by Chancellor John Wiley result from a comprehensive investigation of the Athletics Department that concludes the department may have inadvertently violated National Collegiate Athletic Association rules prohibiting extra benefits to student-athletes.

Students plan clean-up

UW-Madison students from the Bradley Learning Community will conduct an outdoor cleanup project in the vicinity of Bradley Hall and the Howard Temin Lakeshore Path Saturday, April 21, noon-2 p.m. They will begin on the lakeshore side of Bradley, 1900 Willow Drive.
