Ask Bucky

Do you have questions? We have answers! Ask Bucky is a service provided by the Campus Information and Visitor Center, your one-stop shop for information about the UW–Madison campus and community and your centralized source for off-campus housing listings. For more information, call 263-2400, visit the office in the Red Gym or the new satellite location in Bascom Hall, or visit us at http://www.civc.wisc.edu. Below are two questions Ask Bucky recently answered.

Q: What is “Ask Abe” and where can I find him?

A: Ask Abe is an online question-and-answer service where alumni and friends can ask and find answers to those questions that they have always wanted to ask but never did. A service provided by the Wisconsin Alumni Association, Abe speaks honestly to those UW–Madison rumors that you have always questioned or to those nagging UW trivia questions to which you have always wanted to know the answer. Some archived questions include “I heard that Otis Redding died in a plane crash in Lake Mendota. Is that true?” or “Why is ‘Agriculture’ spelled ‘Agricvltvre’ on the front of Ag Hall?” To find answers to these questions and to ask questions of your own, visit http://www.uwalumni.com/askabe/.

Q: I would like to purchase surplus or corporate-owned technology that is no longer in service or is scheduled to be de-installed in the near future at the UW. Who would I need to speak with?

A: You can purchase UW–Madison’s used/surplus technology from Surplus With A Purpose, otherwise known as SWAP. SWAP is a multifaceted surplus property disposal operation serving all UW–Madison departments and State of Wisconsin agencies located in the Madison area. SWAP has everything from computers and accessories to office supplies, desks, chairs, lab equipment, bikes and machinery. Find a list of current inventory at the SWAP Web site, http://www.bussvc.wisc.edu/swap, or contact them at 245-2908 or swap@bussvc.wisc.edu, or stop by the warehouse at 2102 Wright St., two blocks north of the MATC Truax campus.
