Photo gallery Memorial Union reopens
Memorial Union’s east wing reopened Dec. 5 with the debut of the Daily Scoop ice cream shop, Badger Market, Peet’s Coffee and Tea and the Rathskeller seating area. More dining options will open in January.
The Daily Scoop's new home has a fresh, retro look and new study break treats, including the “Freshman 15” — a shareable, 15-scoop sundae.
Portions of the first floor have been converted into expansive study spaces.
Students perch at a new elevated seating island across from Der Rathskeller.
The former Essentials Store is now a Badger Market with a new, modern look and twice as much space to provide a large selection of grocery and grab-n-go food and beverage items, as well as Badger apparel.
The reimagined, contemporary Peet’s Coffee & Tea will offer more space for customers to relax, study and caffeinate.
Once you get this prime spot in Der Rathskeller, you won't want to give it up.
A new seating area provides enough room for silent studying and collaboration to coexist.
Even indoors, the familiar sunburst pattern of the popular Terrace chairs is reflected.
The history of Memorial Union is told in a colorful illuminated display.
A way-finding sign directs visitors to new places and old favorities.
With new interior features visible from outside the east wing entrance, Memorial Union remains one of UW-Madison's most iconic locations.
