Bloomberg central bank columnist to visit

October 4, 2006 By Dennis Chaptman

Bloomberg News columnist Caroline Baum, an award-winning analyst of Federal Reserve Bank policy and the nation’s economy, will visit UW–Madison as this fall’s Business Writer in Residence.

Baum will visit campus during the week of Oct. 23, speaking to classes and meeting with journalism and business students, local journalists and others.

A financial journalist since 1987, Baum won the National Headliner Award in 2004 and 2005 in the wire service/commentary category and is the author of “Just What I Said,” a collection of observations on the economy, banking and budget policy.

She has built a reputation for making complicated, technical issues understandable and fun with an engaging writing style. Former U.S. Treasury Secretary Paul O’Neill said that Baum “is one of the few topical commentators who write things that have lasting value.”
