Zoology Earns Recognition for Quality

April 23, 1997

The Department of Zoology has been recognized recently for its use of Total Quality Management techniques through a State of Wisconsin Certificate of Commendation presented by Gov. Thompson. The certificate comes from the Wisconsin Quality Recognition Process of the Wisconsin Quality Network, which recognizes the quality improvement efforts of organizations statewide. The Zoology Department was one of only 11 organizations, including Ray O-Vac, to receive the honor this year. “This award shows that UW–Madison has demonstrated leadership and management skills, even during a time of greatly declining resources,” said Warren Porter, chair of zoology.

Under Porter’s leadership, Zoology has used strategic planning to enhance the working environment for faculty and staff, and to improve instruction for students. Their efforts were featured in the May 1, 1996, issue of Wisconsin Week.
