WSUM to air dean of students call-in show

January 24, 2003 By John Lucas

For the first time, a UW–Madison administrator will participate in a weekly radio call-in show on WSUM-FM 91.7, the university’s student radio station.

On “The Luoluo Show,” Dean of Students Luoluo Hong will discuss campus news, and listen to student views and concerns, as well as answer questions on the show, which will air Mondays, from 5-6 p.m. The show premieres Jan. 27 and will run through the semester.

“The main purpose of the show is to provide Dean Hong the opportunity to hear what issues students are concerned about, as well as for her to vocalize what she thinks,” says UW–Madison senior Katie Harbath, who will produce and host the show.

“We feel the show is a good opportunity for students, parents and community members to stay up-to-date on the issues facing UW–Madison,” she adds. “We encourage everyone to call in with their comments or questions.”

Hong, who previously served as assistant vice president for student affairs and dean of students at Shepherd College in Shepherdstown, W. Va., began leading UW–Madison’s Dean of Students office last November. For the Jan. 27 show, topics to be covered include a review of Hong’s first months on the jobs, her background and philosophy, and a discussion of the Jan. 1 death of student Mark Mueller.

After years of planning and struggle, WSUM began broadcasting over the air on Feb. 22, 2002. For more information, visit http://wsum.wisc.edu/.
