Wisconsin Singers compete for $10,000 in summer television series
From July 6 to 10, community members can vote online for the Wisconsin Singers to win a cash prize that will help them continue pursuing their mission to help organizations around the state raise money through performance events.
Students that are part of the Wisconsin Singers come from a range of majors and use their passion for the stage to help others. The Wisconsin Singers present fundraising concert events for service organizations, music boosters and UW–Madison alumni chapters, raising tens of thousands of dollars annually for local community initiatives.
On June 22, the Wisconsin Singers, an organization run by UW–Madison students, entered “America Sings,” a competition for singing groups on GMC-TV. This eight-night series showcases videos of singing groups and their inspiring stories. Hosted by Drew Lachey, “America Sings” allows its audience to decide which singing group will win $10,000 by voting online here.
Votes for the Wisconsin Singers must be made online between 8 p.m. Central time on Wednesday July 6 and 11 p.m. Central time on Sunday, July 10.
The Wisconsin Singers submitted three segments of video for the competition including their renditions of “42nd Street,” “Up the Ladder to the Roof,” and “America!”
Robin Whitty-Novotny, director of the Wisconsin Singers, notes that the group’s core value is to provide communities throughout the state an opportunity to raise funds through family friendly entertainment.
“We are excited to be included in the competition because it showcases talented UW students who donate hundreds of hours to helping others raise money. [The Singers] help inspire others to do the same type of service by doing free music workshops for more than 1,000 aspiring junior and senior high musicians each year” says Whitty-Novotny.
On Wednesdays at 8 and 9 p.m. Central time, “America Sings” can be seen in the Madison area on channels 131 or 331, on Charter Cable and DirecTV respectively. Also, it can be viewed online here.
