Wisconsin Day coming July 9 on the Big Ten Network

July 7, 2008

A wide range of university broadcast programming, from classic Wisconsin football to a spoken word student group, will be featured on Wednesday, July 9, during Wisconsin Day on the Big Ten Network (BTN).

As part of the broadcast day, three and a half hours are dedicated to University of Wisconsin–Madison programming, including conversations with renowned alumni and features about student life.

Mark Johnson leads off first at 8 a.m. on the alumni program “Wisconsin Reflections.” The current women’s hockey coach, former Badger hockey player and Olympian sits down for an intimate chat and is joined by several former teammates, including UW men’s hockey coach Mike Eaves.

Suzy Favor Hamilton takes the baton at 2:30 p.m. The former Badger and two-time Olympian talks about her career, her family and where she’s running now.

Allee Willis is next on the programming turntable at 3 p.m. While you may not know her name, you definitely know her music. Aside from working with Earth, Wind and Fire and Patti LaBelle, she has also written for Broadway musicals and penned the theme song for the NBC comedy “Friends.”

Finally, at 4 p.m., the network will showcase a documentary on the First Wave Spoken Word and Urban Arts Learning Community at UW–Madison. “First Wave — An Unfiltered Story” profiles several talented undergraduates who are part of the only collegiate spoken word/hip-hop theater program in the country.

The July 9 programming, like all Big Ten Network content, can be accessed on campus through the Digital Academic Technology Network (DATN). This service is available in University Housing residence hall rooms as well as any university building. It is not available via VPN or wireless from off-campus. The channel may not be viewed for profit through DATN.
