Wisconsin Alumni Association earns five awards for publications and programs

On Wisconsin, the magazine for alumni and friends of the University of Wisconsin–Madison, is one of several Wisconsin Alumni Association (WAA) and University Communications programs to be honored with awards this fall.

The awards from the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) District V recognize excellence in programming and publications that enhance support for higher education. CASE District V includes colleges and universities from Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio and Wisconsin.

The Pride of CASE V Awards presented to WAA in 2008 include:

  • Excellence in Research/Scientific/Medical Writing, Individual: John Allen, “Can of Worms,” from On Wisconsin Magazine, Spring 2008. (Gold Award). Allen is a senior editor of On Wisconsin and Badger Insider Magazines. His article, “Can of Worms,” examined the scientific scandal that resulted when UW graduate students uncovered wrongdoing on the part of a faculty researcher to gain external grant funding.
  • Best New Alumni Program: Forward under 40 Awards (Silver Award). WAA created the annual Forward under 40 award and magazine in 2007 to honor the accomplishments and achievements of UW–Madison’s young alumni. Learn more at forwardunder40.com.
  • Best Alumni/Institution Magazine, 10,000 FTE and up: On Wisconsin Magazine (Silver Award co-presented to WAA and University Communications). On Wisconsin is one of the most widely read alumni magazines in the nation. Its writing and photography have won numerous awards, and this quarterly publication is consistently rated as the most valuable communication that UW alumni receive from the university.
  • Most Improved Alumni/Institution Magazine, 10,000 FTE and up: Badger Insider Magazine (Silver Award). Badger Insider Magazine is an exclusive publication for WAA members. Readers share their own stories and photos in Badger Insider’s pages, making this quarterly magazine a celebration of the Badger lifestyle.
  • Excellence in Design, Poster Series: “Hookup” Campaign (Silver Award). This award-winning marketing campaign has created a “buzz” about WAA programs and services available to students while they are still on campus.

Founded in 1861, the Wisconsin Alumni Association offers a wide variety of services, including these award-winning publications, career services, international travel opportunities and lifelong learning events.
