WiscAlerts to test on Tuesday

October 19, 2012

The University of Wisconsin–Madison is planning a full-scale test of WiscAlerts, the campus emergency notification system.

The test will take place sometime between 10 a.m. and 12 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 23 and will encompass email, text messaging, voice calls, the wisc.edu homepage, Facebook and Twitter. Campus users do not need to do anything in response to the test. UWPD regularly tests the system to ensure messages are being delivered in a timely way.

The WiscAlerts system launched in April 2008 and has attracted steady interest from students, faculty and staff, and new students in particular. The system is designed to warn the campus community in the event of an emergency.

Although email and phone notifications will reach campus users automatically, students, faculty and staff do need to enroll to receive WiscAlerts text messages.

Registration is simple and takes just a few moments and can be accessed here.
