Video tracing women’s movement wins national award

June 25, 1999

A video project tracing the roots of the contemporary women’s movement through the lives of eight Midwestern women has won an Exceptional Merit Media Award (EMMA) from the National Women’s Political Caucus.

Produced by Joyce Follet, a faculty associate in the UW–Madison Division of Continuing Studies, “Step by Step” joins such news organizations as National Public Radio, ABC-TV, The Wall Street Journal, Newsweek magazine and more in winning the award, given annually for coverage of women’s issues.

“I researched this group of women for several years,” Follet says. “The historical significance of their lives and their actions is something I felt needed to be shared with a broad audience.”

The program aired locally on public television in December and March. The awards will be presented in a ceremony Friday, July 2, in San Francisco.
