Very fine Dine

Image of Jim Dine etching, These Three Dogs Are for Nina D."

The etching “These Three Dogs are for Nina D.” is part of an exhibit, Jim Dine Prints: 1985-2000, at the Elvehjem Museum of Art through Sept. 21. Approximately 40 lithographs, intaglios and woodcuts illustrate Dine’s recent graphic production. Dine has worked in performance painting, sculpture and drawing, but his first love is printmaking. In addition to animals, Dine uses hearts, hands, skulls, tools and robes as subjects. He continually turns to familiar images, such as the Venus de Milo, trees and flowers, to evoke a variety of emotional responses. Each motif resonates with the artist’s life experiences, and he has openly declared them self-portraits. Dine will discuss his work in a slide-lecture on Friday, Sept. 19, 5-6:30 p.m., in Elvehjem room L160, with a reception following. Photo courtesy Elvehjem Museum of Art
