UW to recognize and welcome faculty of color

January 15, 2013 By Valeria Davis

The tradition of welcoming new UW–Madison faculty of color and honoring all faculty of color will continue with a reception on Tuesday, Jan. 22.

The public and campus community are invited to register for and attend the annual Faculty of Color Reception, a free event that will be held from 5-7 p.m. in the Alumni Lounge of the Pyle Center, 702 Langdon Street.

Hosted by Vice Provost and Chief Diversity Officer Damon Williams and Vice Provost for Faculty and Staff Steve J. Stern, the reception is an opportunity to welcome and recognize new, newly promoted, and visiting faculty of color, and network with colleagues.

Interim Chancellor David Ward will address the honorees. The deans of the university’s schools and colleges will present their faculty members.

“We are very pleased to meet, honor and welcome new faculty to UW–Madison,” Williams says. “Celebrating our diverse faculty is critical and this event is just one of the ways that we partner with deans across the university to acknowledge our vibrant and diverse community on campus.”

The event will honor the 84 recently-promoted faculty of color and welcome 43 new faculty of color.

“We’re encouraging honorees to bring a mentor or valued colleague to this reception,” Stern says. “Our faculty members work with many communities on and off campus, and this is an opportunity for networks to converge.”

Register to attend here. For more information on the event, call 608-265-5228.
