UW-Madison information about Nov. 3 Crime Warning
The Office of Student Conduct and Community Standards is conducting the investigation based on anonymous reports that were received by the university. The university has provided available information to law enforcement, but at this time there is no active law enforcement investigation.
The university will hold accountable any students or Registered Student Organizations (RSOs) found responsible for violating UW–Madison policies. Drugging would constitute a violation of policies governing both individual student and organizational conduct.
The university will also prioritize the privacy, safety and care of students who reported the incident or were harmed.
Any registered student organization found to have violated the Registered Student Organization Code of Conduct could face consequences up to and including termination of the organization’s status and privileges with the university.
Individuals found responsible for violating university policies may also face disciplinary action, up to and including suspension or expulsion. These university disciplinary processes are separate from any investigation conducted by law enforcement and any resulting criminal charges or penalties.
UW–Madison expects students and RSOs to adhere to university policies as well as state and federal laws. Fraternity & Sorority Life staff advise recognized fraternity and sorority chapters, reinforce this expectation and provide fraternity and sorority members with policy, learning and response resources, including anonymous misconduct reporting through FSL Confidential.
Resources and support
- Students and community members are encouraged to report incidents involving RSOs. UW–Madison students can report anonymously via online form. Members of Fraternity & Sorority Life can also anonymously ask questions or report misconduct, such as hazing, via FSL Confidential. UW policy provides for medical amnesty and safeguards against retaliation.
- Learning about reports of this nature can be distressing for students and the broader campus community. UW–Madison offers no cost, confidential crisis and mental health support to students through University Health Services.
