UW-Madison experts can discuss U.S. Senate’s food safety bill

The U.S. Senate passed a far-reaching food safety bill today that, if signed into law, will have an enormous impact on our nation’s food safety system.

The following UW–Madison experts can discuss issues related to the bill:

Steve Ingham, professor of food science and former administrator of Wisconsin’s Division of Food Safety at WDATCP, 608-234-7317, scingham@wisc.edu. Ingham can discuss the major components of the bill, implications for the food industry and some of the next steps in the process.

Marianne Smukowski, dairy safety/quality coordinator at the UW–Madison Center for Dairy Research, 608-265-6346, msmuk@cdr.wisc.edu. At the CDR, Smukowski works with cheese and dairy product manufacturers as they implement food safety plans, as well as provides third-party audits. She can discuss how the bill might impact the dairy industry.
