UW center recognized for aiding international trade

The UW–Madison Center for International Business Education and Research (CIBER) received a Governor’s Export Achievement Award at the 40th annual Wisconsin International Trade Conference Tuesday, May 18.

The award, which honors efforts to grow exports and build markets, recognized the center’s work in promoting education and best practices among Wisconsin’s exporting businesses.

In cooperation with the UW–Madison Center for World Affairs and the Global Economy (WAGE) and other partners, CIBER has presented more than 40 workshops and conferences addressing a variety of real-world international business and economic activities each year.

CIBER was established at the School of Business in 1998, and in 2002 it received renewed and increased funding from the U.S. Department of Education to cover its operations until 2006.

The CIBER program is funded by the Department of Education’s Title VI international programs, which provide education to help foster global cultural and language studies, economic competitiveness, and national security.

The Governor’s Export Achievement Awards are presented annually to state organizations actively involved in export trade.Six awards were presented at the conference, which was held at Milwaukee’s Italian Community Center.
