Utility project at Charter Street and Observatory Drive nears end

October 4, 2011 By

The underground utility project at North Charter Street and Observatory Drive should be completed by mid-October, says Rob Kennedy of Transportation Services.

The segments of Charter and Observatory that have been worked on throughout the summer are scheduled for repaving on Saturday, Oct. 8, weather permitting.

On Saturday the streets will be closed in both directions from the entrance to Liz Waters to the east side of the Carillon Tower. The intersection of Observatory and Charter will also be closed. Sidewalks will remain open.

All campus buses will be detoured to University Avenue on Saturday and riders should check Metro’s website for more information.

If all goes as planned, the roads will reopen to two-way traffic on Saturday, Oct. 15, or shortly thereafter.

“So far, the project has been on schedule for the most part, but rain could postpone the paving work,” says Kennedy.

If there are any changes, officials will provide notification regarding them.
