Update: Phone service restored to Bascom Hill

September 9, 2011

8 a.m. Monday: Office phone service to Bascom Hall, North Hall, South Hall has been repaired. If your phone is still affected, email voice.services@doit.wisc.edu or call DoIT Telephone Repair at 262-7474 or Voice Services at 262-5544.

Phone service to most or all of Bascom Hall, North Hall, South Hall and possibly other nearby buildings will be unavailable beginning the evening of Friday, Sept. 9. The outage will last through the weekend.

A telephone cable has been damaged in a steam tunnel near the Law Building, affecting service in Bascom Hall, North Hall and South Hall. To repair the damaged cable, AT&T must cut and splice a large cable feeding this area.

More buildings could potentially be affected, but DoIT Voice Services is not aware of any other affected buildings as of Friday afternoon, according to Catie Isenberg, Voice Services manager.

Most service will be restored by Monday morning, but it is possible that service will be interrupted for a longer period.

Building managers and those affected have been notified. Calls to out-of-service numbers will be forwarded to voice mail if that telephone number has voice mail; otherwise, calls will ring unanswered.

Please also be advised that 911 from office phones will also not operate, and “blue light” emergency phones may be impacted as well. Please use a cell phone for emergency calls.

If your phone is affected and you need assistance, email voice.services@doit.wisc.edu or call DoIT Telephone Repair at 262-7474 or Voice Services at 262-5544.
