Union theater presents duo

World-renowned recorder player Michala Petri will partner with Manuel Barrueco, a superb guitarist and elegant musician, on the Wisconsin Union Theater stage Saturday, Jan. 26 at 8 p.m.

The concert will include works spanning nearly 300 years of composition for the guitar and recorder.

Long recognized as the leading recorder player of our day, Petri delights and audiences worldwide with her virtuosity and musicality. Petri’s mastery of the recorder is absolute, her musicianship unsurpassed, her facility breathtaking, according to reviewers.

Barrueco has firmly established himself as a leading figure in the guitar world today. Ever since his dazzling debut recital at Carnegie Hall in 1974, his artistry has continually been described as that of a superb instrumentalist and an elegant musician, possessing a seductive sound and uncommon lyrical gifts. Barrueco has been described as “a major artist with remarkable musicianship and a world of technique . . . simply and consistently – awesome” by the Los Angeles Times.
