Transportation Services operational response to COVID-19 (coronavirus)

March 13, 2020

Recommendations for campus operations in response to COVID-19 (coronavirus) are extremely fluid and may change at any time based on advice from local, state, and federal partners. Please stay tuned to covid19.wisc.edu for the most up-to-date campus information and related resources.

This post will be updated with additional operational changes as more information becomes available.

Transportation operations

Campus bus service (Routes 80, 81, 82, 84)

Campus bus service will be on a recess service schedule—as planned—March 14-21 for spring break. This means there is no late-night service on Routes 81 and 82 and a reduced number of buses running on Route 80 and 84.

At this time, Madison Metro Transit will continue regular operations. Campus service will resume the regular semester schedule on March 22 following spring break. Regular campus service during a time of reduced campus capacity can help allow for less potential bus crowding and better opportunities for social distancing.

Metro has planned for additional cleaning of their buses—including buses used for campus routes—each evening.

Campus accessible circulator shuttle

Service is suspended—as planned—March 14-22 for spring break. Regular operations will resume on March 23 following break. Shuttle surfaces will be regularly sanitized.

SAFEwalk

SAFEwalk will remain open throughout spring break and the semester. Call or text (608) 262-5000 to arrange for a walk. SAFEwalk is available for UW students, employees, and visitors.

Any updates will be provided as they are available.

University Bicycle Resource Center

The University Bicycle Resource Center is closed during spring break—as planned and will be open Mondays and Thursdays 4-8 p.m. March 23 – April 10.

The March 25 class “Shifting and Derailleurs” has been canceled to follow the campus directive to cancel non-essential group gatherings. Efforts will be made to reschedule later this spring following campus recommendations.

All “air and repair” locations will be available.

Any updates will be provided as they are available.

Parking operations

Park and rides & park and ride shuttles

Lots will be open and shuttle service will continue as normal. Shuttle surfaces will be sanitized following each trip.

Permit and visitor parking

At this time, Chancellor Blank has stated campus will remain open and all faculty and staff should continue their regular work schedules. Daily campus operations will continue, with exceptions addressed at covid19.wisc.edu. Transportation Services will continue normal operations, including parking rules and enforcement.

Valid UW permits are still required for parking in non-visitor designated campus locations. Visitor parking will remain available in the usual locations (ramps, garages, timed parking “meters”).

The overall campus situation is being monitored and adjustments to Transportation Services operations will be made as needed. Your patience and understanding are appreciated.
