Traffic update: Construction at Charter Street and Observatory Drive

August 5, 2011 By

The underground utility project on Observatory Drive and Charter Street is moving into its final phase.

Charter Street between Observatory and Linden drives, closed since mid-May, is expected to reopen to two-way traffic by move-in starting on Sunday, Aug. 28.

The Route 80 and 85 buses will end their detours at that time and resume their regular routes, turning left on to Charter Street and traveling southbound from Observatory Drive. The buses are also scheduled to resume standard service on August 28. Click here for route schedules and related information.

Lot 11 permit holders and other drivers exiting Lot 11 may only turn left on to Observatory Drive because eastbound traffic is temporarily blocked by a replacement of electrical and signal service in that area. Signal service includes telephone, computer, and relatively low-voltage electricity.

Two-way traffic on Observatory Drive between Lot 11 and Park Street will resume by Thursday, Sept.1, but traffic will remain one-way westbound between the Social Science Building and Soil Science until early October when the project is completed.
