TIP/Haiti experts

Tens of thousands are feared dead after the devastating 7.0-magnitude earthquake hit Haiti this week. These UW–Madison experts can provide context and analysis for interested media.

Brenda Gayle Plummer, professor of Afro-American studies, can be reached at bplummer@wisc.edu. Plummer is a historian, author of two books on Haiti and can put the current crisis in the context of Haiti’s past problems.

Clifford Thurber, professor and chair of geology and geophysics, 608-262-6027, thurber@geology.wisc.edu. Thurber is an expert on earthquakes and fault zones and can discuss the earthquake and its powerful aftershocks.
