SWAP fires up online auction site

October 4, 2002

The Surplus With A Purpose program (SWAP) recently launched its new online auction site. The site, currently featuring seven running auctions, won’t be competing with eBay anytime soon, but it does offer unique items ranging from clothing and computer equipment to medical equipment and a lawn mower. Bidding and registration work much like eBay, and each auction contains pictures and an item description. Auctions run for an average of 10 days with new item postings each week.

This online program supplements SWAP’s Thursday (for campus department and state agencies) and Friday (for the general public) sales at the warehouse, 2102 Wright St. It also reaches a larger, nationwide audience. SWAP collects surplus equipment and supplies from UW–Madison, other UW-System campuses and other state agencies, maximizing end-of-life value through internal redistribution, sale or recycling.
