Approximately 7,000 University of Wisconsin–Madison students will soon be moving into residence halls across the campus in preparation for the 2011-12 academic year.

The primary move-in days are Aug. 25, 27, 28, 30 and 31. The busiest times will be between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.

On Thursday, Aug. 25, approximately 550 international students and students in approved groups will move in.

On Saturday, Aug. 27, some 750 residents will move into Sellery and Ogg halls.

On Sunday, Aug. 28, approximately 1,900 residents, along with University Housing staff and approved groups, will move into various halls across the campus.

Tuesday and Wednesday, Aug. 30-31, are general move-in days, with approximately 2,000 students moving in each day.

Some campus-area streets will be closed or limited to two-way traffic, and parking lots near the halls will be used for unloading only.

The following streets will be affected on Aug. 28, 30 and 31:

  • Observatory Drive from Charter Street to Babcock Drive will be restricted to primarily move-in traffic and will be one way westbound. Charter Street is scheduled to reopen by Aug. 28.
  • Elm Drive north of Observatory Drive will be restricted primarily to move-in traffic and will be one way northbound.
  • Lake Street between West Johnson and West Dayton streets will be closed to traffic.

UW-Madison classes for the 2011-12 academic year begin on Friday, Sept. 2.
