October 20, 2015

More than 1,000 plastic pink flamingos adorned Bascom Hill for the annual “Fill the Hill” event Oct. 7. The event, which was part of the UW’s Annual Campaign, involved placing one flamingo on Bascom Hill for each donation pledged.

The campaign generated 1,022 donations, exceeding the goal of 1,008 — one for each flamingo placed on the hill in a memorable 1979 campus prank.

Nicole Lahy, a digital designer with the Wisconsin Foundation and Alumni Association, watches over the flock in an authoritative-looking uniform.

The birds cooperatively held their poses for onlookers to prove they were there.

Donors who pledged $250 or qualified to receive a Fill the Hill flamingo in the mail as whimsical testament to their generosity.
