Pro Arte, Li Chiao-Ping plan artistic reponse

Two world-renowned creative ensembles will perform a series of artistic reflections on Sept. 11 in a program to be held at the Memorial Union Theater .

The Pro Arte Quartet and Li Chiao-Ping Dance are known around the world for their powerful performances and talented artists. In this dual performance, which begins at 7:30 p.m., both companies will perform works reflective of the events of Sept. 11, 2001.

The Pro Arte Quartet will perform movements from Beethoven’s famed String Quartets, known for their emotional power and resonance.

The Pro Arte Quartet upholds an 85-year tradition of dedication to classical and contemporary string chamber music. In addition to residency at UW–Madison, where duties range from formal concerts and radio broadcasts to a variety of educational activities, the quartet tours nationally and internationally, often presenting premieres of new works, many of which are written for the ensemble.

Li Chiao-Ping Dance will premiere “Grace,” a new work adapted from Li Chiao-Ping and Douglas Rosenberg’s “Venous Flow: States of Grace” which premiered in 2001. Heralded for its elegance and artistry, the work explores the physical nature of hope and renewal in the face of adversity.

Founded in 1990 by choreographer and dancer Li Chiao-Ping, the company’s mission is to create and sustain dance of the highest quality through multimedia and/or multidisciplinary dance productions. LCPD offers powerful programs packed with highly physical and inventive works.
