Paralympic events open to students of all abilities

October 29, 2013 By Greg Bump

Athletes of all abilities are encouraged to participate in a day of Paralympic and adaptive sports and activities from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 2 in Gym 2 at the Southeast Recreational Facility (SERF) on campus. The event is free and open to all UW–Madison students.

The event, Badgers ADAPT, is presented by Rec Sports in partnership with the Adapted Fitness Program of the Department of Kinesiology, the Division of University Housing and the McBurney Disability Resource Center, along with other campus and community partners.

Events will include sitting volleyball, goalball, and the adapted biathlon — all of which are Paralympic events. Students will also get a chance to hear from various guest speakers, including an Olympic trainer and a Paralympic swimmer.

Every student will get a passport, and students can collect stamps for participating in the events, guest speakers and information tables. Once students collect enough stamps, they can enter a raffle for prizes, including t-shirts, water bottles, sunglasses, Solo Beats by Dre and a Kindle Fire HD.

Registration is not required. Students can simply show up at the SERF on the date of the event.

For more information, or if you need a disability-related accommodation to attend the event, please contact Ashley Lax. Rec Sports will attempt to meet requests but will not be able to guarantee provider availability.
