Open mic night part of ‘On, Wisconsin!’ contest

February 22, 2010 By Kiera Wiatrak

Are you eager to enter the “On, Wisconsin!” YouTube competition and win a trip to Las Vegas? Are you holding back because you don’t want to deal with videotaping, uploading and other technical details?

Bring your voices, instruments and your A-game to the Wisconsin Union Directorate (WUD) open mic night, and a crew on hand will take care of the rest.

The open mic night, co-sponsored by WUD and University Communications, is set for 8 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 25, in Der Rathskeller at Memorial Union, 800 Langdon St. The event is expected to conclude at 11:30 p.m. No prior registration is necessary.

Participants are asked to perform their own rendition of “On, Wisconsin!” in honor of the fight song’s 100th anniversary. All performances will be videotaped, uploaded to the UW–Madison YouTube channel and automatically entered in the “On, Wisconsin!” YouTube competition.

The contest invites students, staff, faculty, alumni and fans to submit their own creative rendition of the popular fight song. The grand-prize winner will receive a trip to Las Vegas, hotel accommodations, tickets to the Sept. 4 football game against UNLV and more.

Winners in other categories, including largest group performance, performance farthest from Madison and most creative performance, will also win prizes. For more information on prizes, visit http://www.news.wisc.edu/17644
