Nominations for University Staff Recognition Awards being accepted

January 21, 2016

The work of University Staff will once again be recognized with the University Staff Recognition Awards. Once a year, five employees are selected to receive a plaque and a monetary prize to acknowledge their outstanding contributions to the campus. Last year a record 96 nominations were received and this year, the committee that will evaluate the submissions anticipates even more.

“We listened to those who participated last year and streamlined the process and updated the website to improve the experience for nominators,” says University Staff Awards Selection Committee Chair Tamara Walker, an IS Supervisor 2 in the Division of Information Technology.

Nominations may be handwritten and may be submitted in languages other than English. They may be turned in to the office of the Secretary of the University Staff.

The committee examining the nominations consists of five members of the University Staff who were selected by shared governance. Walker stresses the diverse nature of the committee.

“We have a cross section of employees from various divisions,” Walker says. “It is a well-rounded committee dedicated to examining the submissions from a variety of perspectives.”

“The University Staff Recognition Awards are an excellent way to honor employees who make important contributions to the operations of UW–Madison,” says Vice Chancellor for Finance and Administration Darrell Bazzell. “Through their effort and commitment, they are making this a better place for students, faculty, staff and the public.”

Anyone can place the name of a University Staff member into nomination, but those serving on the committee cannot be nominated nor can they nominate others. Those who have won the award in the past are not eligible to receive it again.

The nominating period will remain open until Feb. 23 and those wishing to take part may do so online.
