Native Nations photo scheduled

November 29, 2006 By John Lucas

Of the 563 federally recognized American Indian and Alaskan Native Nations today, more than 50 are represented at the University of Wisconsin–Madison.

To commemorate the end of November’s Native American Heritage Month, all Native American members of the campus community are invited to the top of Bascom Hill at 1 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 1, for a group photo.

In addition, signs will line Bascom Hill with the name of all Nations represented in the university community.

From 1946-76, 33 American Indian and Alaskan Native peoples graduated from UW–Madison with undergraduate, graduate or professional degrees. From 1976-2006, approximately 779 American Indian and Alaskan Native people graduated at all levels.
