Multicultural Student Center welcomes students

September 5, 2013

The Multicultural Student Center will sponsor the 32nd Annual Multicultural Orientation and Reception celebration from 5:30 p.m.-1 a.m. Friday, Sept. 6 at Union South.

The event will showcase the multicultural student experience with a variety of performances, an academic resource fair, student organization fair, reception and dance.

Entertainment will include cultural dances and music reflective of various cultural traditions and experiences. Scheduled performers include: the University Gospel Choir, Jewop, Vietnamese Student Association, Madison Association of Turkish Students, African Students Association, and the UW School of Bhangra.

The Multicultural Orientation and Reception (MCOR) is the largest university-sponsored event for the UW–Madison multicultural student community. This reception welcomes new and returning students of color and their allies to campus and seeks to initiate the process of community building, support and solidarity among and across these many communities. It is the university’s desire to make the Wisconsin Experience as welcoming and inclusive as possible.

Since its inception, the Multicultural Student Center has been committed to providing academic and cultural resources and co-curricular activities that are essential in supporting the holistic development of students of color and their allies as they strive toward the achievement of educational goals.

The MCOR program introduces students to a host of academic, support and cultural resources and services that are available on the UW–Madison campus. The event is free and open to the public.
