Libraries to participate in Open Access Day

October 8, 2008

Oct. 14 has been declared Open Access Day, and the UW–Madison Libraries will host several efforts to promote the event.

The day will create an opportunity for the higher education community and the general public to understand more clearly the opportunities of wider access and use of content.

Libraries, publishers and institutions around the world will draw attention to open access and celebrate the successes of the movement so far. The day will include a live video webcast that will be hosted in more than 100 locations around the world, combined with a variety of local promotional activities to share information about the issues of open access.

UW–Madison will host the webcast at 6 p.m. at the Memorial Union (check Today in the Union for room location). The Libraries Web site will have a promotional banner on Oct. 14 that will lead to a special Web page that outlines the issues of open access.
