Kinesiology Club to host Poker Run/Walk April 17

April 10, 2008

The Kinesiology Club’s 12th annual 5K Poker Run/Walk will be held on Thursday, April 17, at 6 p.m. in front of the Natatorium. The event is open to the public and is cosponsored by University Health Services, the Wisconsin Wellness Campaign and The Onion.

“Exercise should be fun and accessible for everyone,” says Sarah Duffy, Kinesiology Club president. “That’s why we love to hold this event. It’s fun for people of all ages and ability levels, because it’s all about the luck of the draw, not the fastest race speed.”

Each participant draws three cards at registration, then draws the two final cards of a poker hand upon crossing the finish line. The grand prize goes to the participant with the highest poker hand, not the fastest time.

Last year’s run attracted 180 participants and raised $600 for Madison Area Special Olympics.

Registration starts at 4:30 p.m. at the Natatorium; the race begins at 6 p.m. The entry fee for pre-registration is $10; register online. Registration at the event is $12.

Proceeds benefit the Madison Area Special Olympics and the Kinesiology Club of UW–Madison. The entry fee includes a T-shirt, food, beverages and a DJ. The event will take place rain or shine.
