The campus community is mourning the loss of a University of Wisconsin–Madison employee who was killed in a car accident last week.

Miguel Angel Julian, 71, died Dec. 12 from injuries sustained in the accident. He was born in Bell Ville, Argentina, and worked as a custodian in the Division of Facilities Planning & Management at the university since July 2006.

“Miguel was a hardworking, reliable employee,” said Bill Rowe, custodial services supervisor. “An easy guy to work with, Miguel will be missed by all the people he worked around.”

Martha Garcia is one of those people. She and Julian worked second shift together and she appreciated how he often would walk her to her car or offer a ride when needed.

“It’s hard, and we’ll miss him,” Garcia said. “It’s very, very hard. We’re all shocked.”

Julian was someone that she looked forward to seeing at work.

“He would always help me when I needed something,” Garcia says. “He was a good friend and willing to help other people.”

Julian loved spending weekends with his family, working on his house and watching soccer.

He is survived by his wife, Myriam; daughter, Silvana; son, German, and daughter-in-law, Elida Senn; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and one on the way; sister, Isabel and brother, Juan Carlos.

Services were held earlier this week.
