Jazz benefit for campus child care honors early childhood teachers

June 12, 2008

An annual fundraising event featuring local jazz singer Jan Wheaton will benefit University of Wisconsin–Madison campus child care centers.

Wheaton, with the Jan Wheaton Quintet, will perform from 5:30-8:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 19, at High Noon Saloon, 701 E. Washington Ave. Doors will open at 5 p.m. This is the 11th year for the fundraiser. Hors d’oeuvres will be provided, and a cash bar will be available. Tickets are $30 in advance by calling (608) 890-0436 or at the door. There will be a silent auction and a raffle with prizes donated by local businesses.

The campus child care system is composed of nine centers that serve more than 500 children each week. All provide high-quality care and are nationally and/or city of Madison accredited. These centers provide early care and education for the children of UW–Madison faculty, staff and students while fulfilling the university’s mission of teaching, research and outreach.

This year’s event will honor the excellent work of the following teachers: Barbara Farley, Eagle’s Wing; Lisa Carilli-McCord, Waisman Early Childhood Programs; Vicki Blum, Bernie’s Place; and Carla Crabb, University Houses Preschool. Each has sustained a long-term commitment to campus child care and exceptional service to children and families.

For ticket or event information, contact Jordan Hanson at (608) 890-0436.
